Indigenous artists in the West Moreton region are being invited to help shape a new space at Ipswich Hospital.

West Moreton Health has opened submissions for a large-scale artwork to be installed in the entry corridor of the hospital's purpose-built transit lounge, which is due to open in late 2026.

The commissioned artwork will be used to create a welcoming and healing environment for patients, families and staff.

Yinwum Anathangayth man and Acting Director Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, Maurice Woodley, said the project was an opportunity to strengthen cultural representation across the health service and the artwork would help create a culturally strong space.

"This artwork will help create a space that is welcoming, respectful, and culturally strong," Mr Woodley said.

"We are proud to support First Nations artists to share their stories in a way that acknowledges the diverse journeys of our patients and community."

The Transit Lounge will provide a safe and comfortable space for patients waiting for discharge or transfer to another facility.

It will also support patient flow by freeing up beds on wards, allowing more timely admissions through the emergency department.

The artwork will be produced as a vinyl wall decal and span the main entry corridor.

It will create a continuous visual experience reflecting themes such as journey, connection and movement, recognising the different experiences people bring to a hospital stay.

Initial proposals must include artist details, sketches or concepts, a short artist statement, a proposed timeline and a budget outline.

Shortlisted artists will be invited to develop a sample of the artwork in digital vector format, along with a fully costed quote.

A $500 grant will be provided upon submission.

Submissions opened on Monday, 15 June 2026 and close at midnight on Sunday, 5 July 2026.

Artists are required to read the brief before submitting through the West Moreton Health portal.

Enquiries can be sent via email to [email protected].
