Alex Pearce will look to lead Fremantle deeper into September in 2026 after being confirmed as captain for a fourth campaign.

The Palawa key defender is joined by seven teammates in an extended leadership group after the promotion of 2025 All Australian Jordan Clark into the ranks.

Pearce was first made Dockers captain ahead of the 2023 season, replacing Nat Fyfe in the role to become the eighth Indigenous male footballer to skipper a VFL/AFL side.

North Melbourne's Jy Simpkin became the seventh just weeks earlier. He was succeeded as Roos' leader by Nick Larkey last month after failing to secure a trade to Collingwood.

Last season proved the Dockers' most successful under Pearce's stewardship, the club appearing in finals for the first time since 2022 - finishing sixth after a home elimination final loss to Gold Coast.

With scores tied at the death against Port Adelaide in Round 22, Pearce's contested pack mark and resulting goal — his fourth for the year and ninth across his career — sealed the Dockers' spot in the top eight.

A playing group and coaches' vote confirmed he'll stay at the helm for the upcoming year.

"It is no surprise Alex has once again been backed by his peers and the broader Club to lead this side for a fourth year," Fremantle footy boss Joel Brierty said.

"Alex's growth as a leader has been outstanding. His values, work ethic, and ability to bring the group together continue to set the standard for our Club.

"He embodies everything our trademark stands for, and the respect he commands from players and coaches alike was clearly reflected in the voting."

After signing an extension 12 months ago, Pearce is set to remain at the club until at least the end of the 2027 season.

He enters his 13th season at the Dockers this year.

Andrew Brayshaw and Caleb Serong remain co-vice captains.

Clark, Jaeger O'Meara, Sam Switkowski, Hayden Young and Josh Treacy round out the Dockers' leadership group.
