The NRL have issued Latrell Mitchell with a breach notice in relation to an image of the South Sydney fullback which began circling on social media earlier this week.
On Monday, a photo appearing to show Mitchell in the vicinity of a white powder surfaced, prompting the Rabbitohs to refer the matter to the league's Integrity Unit.
There is no suggestion what can be seen is an illicit substance.
In a statement, South Sydney confirmed they had alerted the NRL they were aware of the photo taken of Mitchell "following a personal appearance in Dubbo on the weekend".
According to reports, Mitchell was formally interviewed by the Integrity Unit on Tuesday.
In the days since, former players - including ex-teammate Mitchell Pearce, expressed their support for the NSW and Indigenous All Stars representative.
Speaking on a podcast, Pearce also called for "big repercussions" to the person who 'leaked' the image.
Mitchell has not publicly commented on the matter.
His manager, Matt Rose, told reporters "Latrell's doing okay" earlier this week.
"At this stage, under the NRL rules, he can't make any comment," Rose said.
"The Integrity Unit are currently investigating…Latrell will make a comment after that's finished."
Following an investigation, the NRL have issued Mitchell with a breach notice alleging a breach of the league code of conduct.
"The particulars of the Breach Notice are that Mitchell featured in imagery, which emerged publicly on 12 August 2024, which depicted him acting in a manner which has brought the game into disrepute," the NRL statement read.
Mitchell has five days to respond to the notice.
