Richmond will contest a three-match ban handed to forward Rhyan Mansell for his hit on Fremantle's James Aish at the weekend.

On Tuesday night the 23-year-old Palawa man was slapped with the sanction after the tribunal determined Mansell had intended to bump into the incident, which was graded careless conduct, severe impact and high contact by the match review officer.

It was the first sanction for rough conduct over his 27-game career.

Following a centre clearance, both men attacked a loose ball towards the Tigers' attacking 50.

Aish appeared dazed after the collision and was taken to the ground where he entered concussion protocols.

At Tuesday's hearing Mansell argued he had eyes for the ball and had not intended to bump.

His plea was not accepted by the panel, who issued the ban that would see Mansell next available for selection for Richmond's round 18 clash with West Coast.

The Tigers have the bye in round 15.

Mansell has been a handy contributor in 2023, kicking 10 goals from 12 matches - including the opener in the Dreamtime at the 'G match against Essendon in Sir Doug Nicholls Round.

On Thursday the Tigers confirmed they would contest the tribunal's verdict.

Their appeal will be heard on Friday morning ahead of their Sunday afternoon match against St Kilda.

Marlion Pickett will also miss the game following his release on bail related to alleged burglaries on Monday, Richmond chief executive Brendon Gale confirmed earlier this week.
