Queensland communities will mark National Sorry Day this month with ceremonies, breakfasts, truth-telling gatherings and school workshops honouring Stolen Generations survivors and descendants.
National Sorry Day is held each year on 26 May and marks the anniversary of the tabling of the 1997 Bringing Them Home report in Federal Parliament. The report documented the forced removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families and called for acknowledgement, apology and reparations.
Link-Up Queensland says Sorry Day is an opportunity to honour Stolen Generations survivors and reflect on truth-telling, healing and justice.
