Talented midfielder-forward Jade Gresham has landed at Essendon after joining the club as a free agent.

The Yorta Yorta man has played 136 games and kicked 136 goals since being drafted by St Kilda with selection 18 in the 2015 AFL Draft.

He played 23 games across the 2023 season and averaged 18 disposals and just under a goal per game.

The 26-year-old told media that he cannot wait to don his new colours.

"Super excited to be joining a massive club like Essendon," Gresham said.

"I'm really excited to see what this group can achieve in the future – I believe we can do something special and I'm happy to be a part of the journey ahead.

"Can't wait to meet everyone at the club, get stuck into pre-season and get to work for a massive 2024."

The former Saint will provide another classy attacking option for Essendon with his ability to make an impact up forward and through the midfield.

Essendon list boss Adrian Dodoro said that Gresham's leadership will be valuable for the club's young forwards.

"He will complement our developing small forwards and provide great leadership and experience as our forward mix continues to evolve," Dodoro said.

"We're confident his best footy is ahead of him and can't wait to see him run around in the red and black next year."

St Kilda will receive a draft pick at the end of the first round as compensation for losing Gresham.

Saints' list manager Stephen Silvagni thanked the departing player for his time at the club.

"Jade has been an important part of this football club for eight years, including a significant contribution throughout the 2023 season," Silvagni said, via a club statement.

"However, whilst Jade was keen to explore a path forward that allowed for new opportunities for his career, the club in turn determined that this also allowed it to continue its commitment to bringing in talented young players through the draft.

"Jade has been a popular teammate, with close relationships across our club which we're sure will continue.

"We wish Jade all the best for his new chapter."
