Zenadth Kes (Torres Strait) community organisations, sporting clubs, schools, councils, and eligible individuals and groups across the Torres Strait and Northern Peninsula Area (NPA) are being encouraged to apply for the latest round of the GBK Healthy Communities Grants Program.

Funded by the Torres Strait Regional Authority (TSRA) and delivered by Gur A Baradharaw Kod Torres Strait Sea and Land Council Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal Corporation (GBK), the GBK Healthy Communities Grants Program is a long-term investment in community wellbeing across Zenadth Kes.

The Program supports communities throughout the Torres Strait and the Northern Peninsula Area communities of Bamaga and Seisia to design and deliver place-based activities whic

TSRA acting chairperson Patrick Mooka said the Healthy Communities Grants support local activities designed, led and delivered by communities from the inner and outer Torres Strait islands through to Bamaga and Seisia in the Northern Peninsula Area.

"Supported by TSRA, GBK is working closely with communities to enable access to funding to bring their ideas to life," Mr Mooka said.

"This funding will help people, organisations and community groups deliver healthy, active lifestyle projects that reflect local priorities, strengths and dreams."

The program offers two funding streams: Sporting and Active Communities Grants - which support sporting, active recreation and physical activity projects that encourage participation, connection and active lifestyles, and Healthy Projects and Initiatives Grants - which support community-led health, wellbeing, participation and connection projects.

GBK chair Ned David agrees, saying the Program empowers Zenadth Kes communities to determine the initiatives that will have the greatest local impact.

"The strongest ideas come from our communities themselves. These grants are about giving local people the opportunity to lead projects that improve health and wellbeing in ways that reflect their own culture, priorities, and aspirations," Mr David said.
