Renowned Indigenous filmmaker Ivan Sen is back with his critically acclaimed outback noir film 'Limbo'.
Limbo showcases the intimate journey into the complexities of loss and the impact of the justice system on Aboriginal families in Australia.
The cast includes AACTA Award-winning, Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated Simon Baker (High Ground, Breath), with Rob Collins (Mystery Road the TV series, Firebite).
Also featured are Natasha Wanganeen (Firebite, Rabbit Proof Fence) and Nicholas Hope (Bad Boy Bubby, The Drover's Wife: The Legend of Molly Johnson).
Baker stars as Travis, a jaded detective, who arrives in the remote outback town of Limbo to investigate the cold case murder of local Indigenous girl Charlotte Hayes, which occurred 20 years previous.
As truths about the murder begin to unfold, the detective gains a new insight into the unsolved case from the victim's fractured family, the surviving witnesses and the reclusive brother of the chief suspect.
Produced by Bunya Productions, Limbo is the seventh feature from Ivan Sen, which follows the success of his 2022 sci-fi film Loveland and celebrated outback mysteries Goldstone and Mystery Road, which has gained popularity on ABC.
Limbo is hot off the international festival circuit, screening at Competition at Berlinale – the Berlin International Film Festival.
Sen's work has been hailed as a "visually striking outback procedural" by The Hollywood Reporter and "a tough, muscular film with the grit of crime, but a heartbeat of compassion," by The Guardian's Peter Bradshaw.
"Simon Baker (is) initially near-unrecognisable and never better," says Variety's Guy Lodge.
Sen has been praised for his writing, directing, editing, handling, cinematography and scoring of his own films, and is also a co-producer on Limbo.
The film is distributed by Dark Matter Distribution and Bonsai Films.
Limbo will release nationally in Australian cinemas on 18 May, with Sen and Baker to tour the country in May for yet-to-be-announced advanced Q&A screenings.
