Desert Pea Media hit the ground running in December 2022 with the lead single release of their 20 Year Anniversary Project – RE-IMAGINE NATION; a 'remix album' of Indigenous community productions written with young people and communities around the country over two decades.
Djabuganydji Bama (Nerve's remix) is the second single of this exciting compilation - a modern trap/drill re-work of a classic North Qld indigenous community reggae/dub anthem and is set to take the world by storm.
"I wanted to keep the reggae/ rap sound from the original song and the same tempo, and just give it sort of a 2022 flavour," said producer Nerve.
"I just made it a bit more trap or drill inspired, kept the same energy and just tried to make it BANG super hard."
The original version of Djabuganydji Bama premiered on Triple J in 2020, bringing in 18,000 views on Youtube, then went on to win the 2020 National Indigenous Music Award for 'Community Music Clip of the Year'.
"Personally this project is very important to me. Just because a lot of the music industry feels quite self-serving, and it feels really good to be doing something that's supporting the community around us," Nerve said.
The 'RE-IMAGINE NATION', brings together a group of huge Australian artists such as Plutonic Lab, Jimblah, True vibenation, Chershire, Bumble, Juman, Hazy and more.
The listed artist will collaborate with B-Town warriors, KDA crew, The Mob and many more from communities with more summer anthems to come in 2023
Desert Pea Media has been with the Australian Community and culture development sector for years, having worked on over 180 community media projects in 86 Indigenous communities. They've picked up six National Indigenous Music Awards, attracting 5.4 million views on their Youtube Channel.
Desert Pea Media has a reputation for creating pathways to celebrate Indigenous culture, and safe spaces for young people to express themselves and find their voice.
