Brisbane ball winner Ally Anderson and Adelaide goalscorer Danielle Ponter are eyeing back-to-back All Australian blazers after selection in the extended squad of 42 following continued strong form in 2024.

The squad, dominated by competition bolters Hawthorn with six selections and closely followed by the Lions, Crows and North Melbourne with five apiece, will be trimmed to the team of 21 ahead of the AFLW Grand Final, a date both Anderson and Ponter are gunning for with their respective clubs, and at the W Awards on November 25.

Sitting in the top five across the competition for season-collective and match-average touches, Anderson has a third All Australian nod on offer following a club best-and-fairest winning 2023 to go with her second premiership last December.

The 30-year-old mid averaged 26 disposals across 11 home-and-away games to go with six tackles and a club-high five clearances in a nine-win season for the defending premiers.

Averaging over a goal a game and 11 touches in Adelaide's front end, with some time spent going on-ball, Ponter is in line to follow up her debut selection in the All Australian side 12 months ago.

Also a two-time premiership winner, the 24-year-old averaged two tackles a game across the year.

Her Crows fell seven points short to the unbeaten Kangaroos in week one of finals at the weekend, with a home semi against Fremantle set for Saturday afternoon in a bid to progress to another preliminary final.

Anderson's Lions secured a direct route to the penultimate week by edging past Hawthorn by a kick at IKON Park - where the 2022 AFLW best-and-fairest winner collected a team-high 19 disposals in the effort.

The premiers could meet Adelaide, should they get past the Dockers, next weekend.
