Margaret Gebadi, a resident of Seisia, recently became the 1000th user of the Pama Platform after attending the Change Makers Summit Workshop in Cairns.

She joined over 70 community members from Cape York at the workshop, where participants discussed challenges faced in areas such as education, health, and language.

During the event, the Pama Platform team showcased their work, highlighting the platform's potential to help Cape York communities manage their finances and daily lives.

As part of this demonstration, Margaret learned about Opportunity Accounts like READY, SET, and GO, designed to assist families in saving for educational and development needs.

She expressed her enthusiasm to the Cape York Partnership.

"The Pama Platform presentation was so good because it let me think about how when I had my son, there wasn't anything like that back in the day," she said.

"I came to realise that while my son might not have had something like this, I can set up a READY account for my granddaughter to support her future needs."

Cape Operations Manager Ms Stacee Ketchell noted the milestone's significance and the journey of developing the Pama Platform.

"Pama Platform enables people to take control of their finances and save for their children," Ms Ketchell said.

She added that families value the locked accounts, knowing funds are preserved for their children's education.

Signing up the 1000th user was a memorable moment.

"To think that more than a thousand of our mob are signed up and taking control of their everyday lives and finances makes my heart swell with pride."

Margaret hopes to encourage more people in the Northern Peninsula Area to join the platform, recognising its potential to help others save for their children and grandchildren.
