NSW Police are appealing for public assistance to locate two missing Indigenous people.

27-year-old Matthew Krakouer, also known as Matthew Scott, from Engaine was last seen on Wednesday 10 January 2024.

Upon failing to locate or establish contact with him, officers from Sutherland Shire Police Area Command have initiated investigations into his current location.

Both the police and his family have expressed grave concerns for his wellbeing.

Mr Krakouer is described as having an Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, standing approximately 165 cm to 175 cm tall, with a slender physique, black hair and brown eyes.

He is known to frequent various areas including the Royal National Park, Engadine, Waterloo, Sutherland and surrounding train lines.

Those with knowledge of his whereabouts are asked to contact NSW Police.

Additionally, the public is asked not to approach Mr Krakouer if he is sighted, instead asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

21-year-old Madison Whitehead from Sydney's Inner West has also been reported missing.

Ms Whitehead was last seen on Fisher Street, Petersham, about 9am on Sunday 7 January 2024.

Upon realising that she could not be reached and had not returned home, Inner West Police Area Command officers immediately initiated an investigation into her location.

Concerns for Ms Whitehead's wellbeing have been expressed by both her family and the police, as she has several health conditions that require regular medication.

She is described as having an Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, standing approximately 155cm tall, with a medium build, black hair and brown eyes.

When last sighted Ms Whitehead was wearing a black jumper adorned with a white logo and black pants. She is known to frequent the Circular Quay, Town Hall, and Inner West areas.

Those with information regarding Madison's whereabouts are asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Circumstances surrounding Mr Krakouer and Ms Whitehead's missing persons status are not understood to be linked.
