A young woman found dead in a Carlton apartment has been identified as 21-year-old Jayda Lou-Eve Allen Bonner.
No charges have been laid over the death of the Yagera woman, who has family in Queensland, with a homicide investigation ongoing.
Police arrested and interviewed a 60-year-old man before releasing him pending further inquiries.
Police say they were called to an apartment on Cardigan Street in Carlton, in Melbourne's inner north, just before 2 am on Saturday. When they arrived, they found the body of a woman, identified as Jayda.
The investigation is ongoing, police say.
Her family told the ABC they had been so concerned about Jayda's safety that they had asked for police intervention in the weeks prior to her death.
"The really horrible, horrible thing is that the system's so broken that about six weeks ago, we begged for their help," family member Kellie Carter-Bell told the national broadcaster.
"We begged for their help, and because we were ringing them and not Jayda, their attitude was, 'Well, what do you want us to do?'"
Other publications have reported that the family allege Jayda was trapped in her apartment, isolated from her friends and family, and subjected to abuse.
Ms Carter-Bell said her niece had a "caring" and "loving soul".
"Jayda was absolutely stunning," she said, as reported by the Herald Sun.
"She was an Indigenous girl. She just had a heart of gold and would do anything for you.
"She was just someone who deserved to be listened to."
