Gulidjan quick Scott Boland has missed out on selection in Australia's starting XI for the World Test Championship Final, beginning at Lord's on Wednesday.

A recently fully-fit Josh Hazlewood will partner skipper Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon in the frontline bowling attack ahead of Boland, with Tasmanian allrounder Beau Webster holding his spot in the side at no.6 to provide relief overs with ball.

In the WTC final two years ago, against India at The Oval, Boland took five wickets to help propel Australia to clinching the trophy.

He last featured in the later matches of summer's drought-breaking Border-Gavaskar Border–Gavaskar Trophy, taking 10 wickets in Sydney to lift his side towards a first series win over India in a decade.

"I'll be ready to play if selection goes my way," Boland told SEN ahead of Tuesday night's team announcement from Pat Cummins in London.

"At the moment I'm not sure, but it does always seem to be between me and Josh.

"It is a good thing to be compared to him, even though I'm a bit older than him, he's one of the best bowlers Australia's had, so that's nice, but I think we will be in the same boat."

Hazlewood is Australia's best performer at Lords within the current squad, having taken 13 wickets in three matches at the ground.

Speaking on Tuesday, Cummins said it was a difficult decision to land on the final bowling attack.

"There are some guys where you genuinely say, 'You've done nothing wrong. Don't change a thing'. And that's Scotty," he said.

"He's just really unfortunate to miss out…I think the message to Scotty is there's a lot of Test cricket coming up in the next couple of years.

"By having a squad of fast bowlers, hopefully we can extend all our careers for an extra couple of years.

"It's really unfortunate Scotty misses this…the message to him is don't feel like you're running out of time. We've still got lots of time hopefully in his career."

Boland's CV in the longest form of the game has grown to 56 wickets at 17.66 from 13 matches.

Accompanying a settled bowling quartet, the biggest surprises come at the top of Australia's order.

Marnus Labuschagne will partner Usman Khawaja in the opening pair, with Cameron Green returning to the XI at number three.

Labuschagne has beaten out young sensation Sam Konstas at the top of the order, with Green coming off the back of impressive months playing in England.

Worimi fast bowler Brendan Doggett was selected in the squad to travel to the UK.

"It's a final. So selectors his pick the best 11 for this week," Cummins said.

"We just want to pick what's best for this week and think about the Windies after this game."

AUSTRALIAN XI: Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Cameron Green, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Beau Webster, Alex Carey (wicketkeeper), Pat Cummins (captain), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood

First ball in the World Test Championship in scheduled for Wednesday night, Australian time.
