As First Nations peoples from around the world have criticised James Cameron's portrayal of Indigenous cultures in his multi-million-dollar film Avatar: The Way of the Water, the world is now in search of on-screen representation that is truer to those about whom the story is being told.

Anders Walter's IVALU is the story of a young Greenlandic Inuit girl who was deeply impacted by the disappearance of her sister. Filmed completely in Greenlandic language the 16-minute film captivates its viewers as the story slowly unravels.

Pipaluk, a Greenlandic Inuit feminine given name meaning "sweet little thing", is the name of the film's leading character.

Nominated for an Oscar in the upcoming Academy Awards, the film is based on the graphic novel written by Danish writer Morten Durr and is said to be the perfect combination of mystery thriller and a heart-aching emotional drama as it puts a spotlight on the abuse some children face in their own homes.

Produced by Rebecca Pruzan and Kim Magnusson. Rebecca Pruzan is an independent producer who was previously commissioning editor of Children's Programming at the Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR). IVALU is the first film Pruzan has produced.

"I am truly happy for this great recognition of IVALU. IVALU is a super strong and poetic film that sheds light on a very important and sensitive subject. Abuse is the children's problem but the adults' responsibility to do something about it. Regardless of culture and nationality. Everyone in front of and behind the camera of IVALU has worked hard in making the film come true and it is hugely commendable that it is now on the shortlist". Rebecca shares.

IVALU will be shown in Australia during Flickerfest on Sunday 22nd January, 1:30pm during Best of International Shorts and Saturday 28th January, 6:30pm at the EU Shorts Showcase.
