AFL clubs are handing back marks of support for an Indigenous Voice to Parliament following a request from the league for each to advise on their position ahead of the referendum.

Late last month, AFL General Manager Social Policy and Inclusion Tanya Hosch distribute a memo to all 18 clubs encouraging each to form a position on the proposal for constitutional change.

Responses were asked to be received by Monday, May 8.

Within days Collingwood announced their stance in support of the Voice with West Coast following suit shortly after.

Sixteen clubs are yet to put their's forward publicly, though a number have submitted to the AFL.

Ms Hosch told National Indigenous Times that of those that have come back, who weren't named, positions on the Voice have been favourable.

"I've only heard from supportive clubs so far," Ms Hosch said.

Given the timeframe and internal club discussions to be undertaken Ms Hosch said she did not expect to have 18 submissions within a fortnight, but is confident of gathering those remaining in the coming days.

Individual positions will be given as feedback to the AFL Commission to inform a potential "code-wide response".

Ms Hosch said all parties remain free to make their own statements, including the AFL separately.

"Some might choose not to," she said.

On Tuesday the NRL formally backed the Voice.

It follows a number of companies, bodies and sporting administrations announcing their support.
