Indigenous stars shine at AACTA Awards

Some of the brightest Indigenous stars in Australian film and television have claimed honours at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards.

The AACTA awards were presented Wednesday night recognising screen excellence across film, television, documentary, short film, and digital media.

A number of Indigenous stars were nominated this year in diverse categories that ranged from best Actor/Actress to best Short film.

Bunya/ABC production Mystery Road: Origin was a stand-out production, racking up no fewer than 15 AACTA awards nominations and winning seven, including for Best Cinematography in Television, Best Editing, Best Direction in Television, and Best Sound in Television.

· William Barton for River - Original Score (Documentary)

· Tanith Glynn-Maloney for Finding Jedda - Best short film

Other nominees included Leah Purcell for The Drovers wife (best screenplay), True Colours (Best miniseries), Little J & Big Cuz (Best children's show), and Wayne Blair for Aftertaste – (Best comedy performer).
