The first official runway for Melbourne Fashion Festival began Monday night.

Joining the likes of Aje, Van Der Kooij and Ginger and Smart, Yuwaalaraay woman and creative director and founder of Maara Collective Julie Shaw also debuted a new trans-seasonal collection.

This is one of two collections Shaw will debut this year.

Shaw said as a trans-seasonal iteration, this collection does not contain any of the prints she's so well known for.

"This new range is woven dresses and I've got some woven elements in terms of the fringing and hand-knotting," she said.

"It's a bit of an evolution on our range moving forward."
