Family of the late Phoenix Spicer have moved to address misinformation about the young former AFL footballer's tragic passing.

Spicer, who played at the top level for North Melbourne between 2021 and 2023, and continued on with state-level footy, dies suddenly, aged 23, last week.

"Theres a lot of misinformation going around right now and I want to make it VERY CLEAR, our brother Phoenix did not take his own life," a family member posted to social media this week.

"Tragic, sudden and unexpected.

"If you hear or witness these rumours please shut them down to protect his heart and dignity while he makes his journey to the Dreamtime."

The same family member, on behalf of her sister and family, publicly announced the sad news on Saturday.

Spicer's passing was met with an outpour of emotion at the weekend.

North Melbourne expressed their saddnress at hearing the news.

Other club's of the young talent, originally from Numbulwar in East Arnhem Land, including the Bulldogs - where Spicer played VFL football in recent seasons, his original SANFL club South Adelaide, NTFL club Darwin Buffaloes and local Melbourne club Hoppers Crossing - where he was due to play in 2026, paid their tributes, alongside members of the public.
