Representative forward Josh Kerr is set to return to St George in 2026, three years after leaving to join the newly-entered Dolphins.

Kerr, 29, has reportedly agreed to terms on a two-year deal at the Dragons.

The seven-time Indigenous All Star played 68 first grade games in the red V, including 13 games to start 2023, before departing to join the Dolphins mid-way through their inaugural season in the national competition.

AAP reports Kerr was interested in remaining at the Queensland club but salary cap restraints got in the way, while CODE Sports have reported the Dragons are preparing to announce the signing for next year.

Kerr has put together another strong campaign at the Dolphins after consistent seasons since his debut at St George in 2019.

His form was rewarded with a call up into Queensland's extended State of Origin squad late in the series, without appearing in the Maroons' series decider triumph.

The Dolphins are currently eyeing their debut entry into an NRL finals series sitting eighth on the ladder a win clear of the ninth and tenth placed Roosters and Sea Eagles.

Kerr came into the 2025 season off contract at the end of the year.

He had 18 months remaining on his deal at the Dragons when he departed north.

Just last month, Kerr said he was "not too sure" whether he would be at the Dolphins in 2026, despite saying he would love to stay at the club.

The Queenslander admitted he took a "massive pay cut" to return to his home state, and spoke of a unique salary position the Dolphins were in in 2025.
