First Nations NRL stars will headline rugby league's bid to prove its sporting supremacy in the footy code war.

Reece Walsh, Jaime Chapman and Josh Addo-Carr will make league's case in physical and mental challenges pitted against some of Australian rules' and rugby union's best in RIVALS.

The eight-part reality series premieres on subscription sports streaming service Kayo on March 1.

The Indigenous star trio is joined by Jillaroos veteran Ali Brigginshaw.

Chapman said she relished the opportunity to compete, for more reason than one, with culture and the next generation squarely in her thoughts.

Recent code-convert Joseph Suaalii joins Wallaroos and Wallaby Ashley Marsters, Desiree Miller, Harry Wilson.

On the AFL and AFLW's roster are Norm Smith winners Scott Pendlebury and Will Ashcroft, Matilda Scholz and competition best-and-fairest Monqiue Conti.

Set on Ngaro Country at Hamilton Island, the 12 in their teams put their egos and reputations on the line in science-backed pressure-fuelled speed, agility, power, endurance tests with points on the line.

"I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to compete and showcase my talent on RIVALS, not only as an athlete but as a proud Indigenous woman. I carry my culture, family, and community with me, hoping to inspire mob to believe that they can succeed as athletes in whatever sport they choose," Chapman told National Indigenous Times.

The show's grand final will decide who takes home bragging rights.

League and union split honours in a similar spectacle, Australia's Greatest Athlete, broadcast between 2009-2011 on Nine and Channel 7 with Storm icon Billy Slater and 80-cap Wallaby Quade Cooper claiming silverware.

The show features athletes across a range of sports.

Wendell Sailor was a former competitor.

For RIVALS, Walsh, Chapman and Addo-Carr bring three premierships, a Clive Churchill Medal, a grand final hat-trick, nearing 30 State of Origin and 10 Indigenous All Stars matches on a collective CV.

Addo-Carr told National Indigenous Times taking part, and in the sun-soaked location, is something he'll never forget.

"As a proud Indigenous man, I loved going up against athletes from other codes and representing where I come from. I'm a competitor at heart, and this experience pushed me in the best way," he said.

"I made lifelong friends along the journey, and honestly, it was one of the best experiences of my life."

The series is delivered by Rexona, and will be available to watch on Foxtel alongside Kayo.
