Indigenous seamers Scott Boland and Brendan Doggett have secured selection in Australia's Test squad for the first Ashes Test in Perth, starting November 21.

The pair feature in the 15-man squad, announced on Wednesday, alongside regular bowling cartel members in Josh Hazlewood, Mitch Starc and Nathan Lyon, as well as domestic and experienced international white ball quick, Sean Abbott.

Doggett, off the back of a Sheffield Shield six-fa in Perth, enters the squad for a second straight summer having also travelled to the UK for the World Test Championship final.

If selected at some stage in the series, the Worimi man would become Australia's fifth Indigenous Test cricketer behind Jason Gillespie, Boland, mid-20th century trailblazer Faith Thomas and Ash Gardner.

Boland appears all but certain to hold his spot in the Australian lineup after their July tour of the West Indies in place of injured skipper Pat Cummins.

The upcoming Sheffield Shield round looks set to determine the batting order, with 14 of the 15-player squad lining up for their state in a final effort to prove their stocks.

Speaking to media this week, Doggett said "I'll be ready" for a call up to the Test side if selected.

The 31-year-old's selection comes after 6/48 and 1/38 against Western Australia in his last Shield match.

"I have been waiting for this for a long time so I feel like if I do get a call to join that squad, I'll be ready. We'll see what happens," she said, via reports.

Doggett added: "We have got the best bowling attack in world cricket and we have done for a long time."

"So it's just great for me to be able to share a change room with these world-class bowlers and watch how they go about it, how durable and professional they are."

Previous to the squad's announcement South Australian coach and former Test quick Ryan Harris put his faith in Doggett, saying he believed "he'd be pretty close," and "if he gets the opportunity, he'll be definitely ready for it".

Doggett took 6-fa in the first innings of Australia A's match against India A in the first of two tour games ahead of last summer's Test series.

Chairman of selectors George Bailey said the albeit slim chances of either Doggett or Abbott debuting would be about "complementary skill sets" and "best fit".

In the absence of injured skipper Pat Cummins, Boland appears destined to hold his spot after featuring in the West Indies during Australia's mid-year tour.

The Gulidjan quick starred during his inclusion last summer, namely a 10-fa to help secure the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time in a decade against India in Sydney.

Australia's perennial 12th man and injury replacement debuted during the last home Ashes, which included his fairytale player of the match performance at the MCG.

Allrounders Cameron Green and Beau Webster were also named in the squad as potentials to compliment Australia's pace bowling lineup.

Matt Renshaw and Sam Kontas were both overlooked as potentials to partner with veteran opener Usman Khawaja.

Kontas has been less than potent with the bat since debuting against India on Boxing Day, while Renshaw, following recent Shield form with Queensland and re-entering the international frame after making his ODI debut last month, also missed selection.

Bailey wouldn't confirm a debut for Tasmanian opener Jake Weatherald after his inclusion in the squad.

Weatherald seems the likely option to partner with Usman Khawaja.

Pressed on the chances of the difference between Weatherald and Renshaw's push for a spot in the XI, Bailey kept tight-lipped.

Former no1 batter in the Marnus Labuschagne has been recalled following five centuries at domestic level to start the summer.
