Radiant Life College welcomed students, families, and community members last month for its annual NAIDOC Week event, held under the 2025 theme 'The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy'.

The event brought together schools from across Far North Queensland for a full day of cultural celebration and learning on the school's South Innisfail campus.

Radiant Life College Principal Nathanael Edwards said the day reflected the school's commitment to inclusion, cultural recognition and education.

"We had a fantastic event here with stakeholders and schools from across the region," Mr Edwards said.

"It's becoming a real highlight of the year. We're proud to promote inclusive education and First Nations wellbeing, and to engage meaningfully with our local communities."

Formalities began with a safety reminder for attendees to avoid approaching cassowaries, which are known to inhabit the surrounding bushland.

The program featured traditional dance performances, spear-throwing demonstrations, and hands-on workshops in Indigenous arts, crafts and storytelling.

Guests were invited to sample a range of traditional foods, while technology enthusiasts gathered at drone demonstrations delivered by IT consultancy KJR.

Students, teachers and parents engaged in conversations about culture and community, with several taking part in yarning circles led by local Elders and cultural educators.

Guest speakers Sam Thaiday, a former Brisbane Broncos player, and Jemma Mi Mi, a former Queensland Firebird, addressed students on the themes of leadership, resilience, and staying connected to culture. Both shared personal stories about their journeys in sport and identity.

Mr Edwards also thanked supporters and welcomed wider participation in future events.

"To all who participated and supported us this year – thank you," he said.

"And for those who would like to attend future events, you're more than welcome."

Radiant Life College acknowledged the contributions of Elders, performers, educators and community partners who made the celebration possible.
