After months of obfuscation and delays, the federal Liberal party has reportedly chosen to oppose a constitutionally enshrined Indigenous Voice to Parliament.

It is understood that in a special party room meeting held Wednesday 5 April the Liberal MPs and senators decided to reject the government's plan to put a central pillar of the Uluru Statement from the Heart into action by establishing a constitutionally enshrined Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament.

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton is expected to hold a media conference on the issue at 2:15pm eastern time.

More to come.
