Noongar boxer Alex Winwood is set to return to the ring after being announced to face Thailand's Wutthichai Montri at the Mantra in Surfers Paradise on November 29.

The bout will be Winwood's first since signing with Moxie Sports Management and joining Bethania Boxing Club, south of Magandjin, under coach Mark Wilson.

It follows a new chapter for Winwood, who recently spoke about rebuilding his career after his world title loss to Thammanoon Niyomtrong in Perth earlier this year.

The 28-year-old said the move to Moxie felt like the right step for his growth, describing his new team as one that "understands my situation" and helps him focus purely on the sport.

He told National Indigenous Times he's eager to shake off the rust and get back to work.

"Very excited for the upcoming fight, it's been over a year since I've been in the ring so it would be great to shake off the ring rust," he said.

"He is a good opponent for a first fight back after a 12-month play-off.

"I have to be very weary of not taking him serious which I am fully locked in so I hope he comes to give me a good challenge."

The fight will not be for a title, with Winwood using the bout as a chance to regain rhythm and rebuild momentum heading into 2026.

"No title for this fight, this is more about getting back in the ring and getting active before the new year," he said.

"It's about setting myself up for a very big 2026 with a new team and a renewed hunger for the sport."

Montri holds a professional record of three wins and four losses, making him a balanced test for the Noongar boxer's comeback under his new management and coaching team.
