Victoria's Indigenous athletes are being encouraged to apply for support through the latest round of the Aboriginal Sport Participation Grant Program, which offers funding for uniforms, equipment, travel and competition expenses.
Backed by the Victorian Government, the program aims to strengthen Aboriginal participation in community and high-level sport across the state. It supports individuals and teams to compete in local, state and national competitions.
Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence said the program reflects the government's commitment to creating more opportunities for Aboriginal people in sport and recreation.
"From the Australian Indigenous Surfing Titles to Super Netball, First Nations athletes continue to inspire Victorians through their performances on the big stage," Ms Spence said.
The program provides up to $1,000 to help teams cover the cost of uniforms and equipment.
Travel and accommodation support is available at $2,500 for junior teams and $1,500 for senior teams competing in major tournaments or carnivals.
Eligible individuals can receive up to $250 for sporting uniforms and equipment, and up to $750 for travel-related costs.
Among previous recipients was Tennis Victoria, which received $2,500 to assist Team Victoria with travel and accommodation for the 2024 National Indigenous Tennis Carnival.
Basketball club Debbie's Diamonds, based in Reservoir, previously received nearly $3,000 to support their Men's C Grade and Women's B Grade teams to attend the 2025 VACSAL State-wide Basketball Classic in Mildura.
Mernda Calisthenics Club secured more than $500 to purchase uniforms for five Aboriginal members aged 15 to 24, enabling their participation in a local competition.
Since 2020, the program has delivered more than 480 grants to Aboriginal clubs and individuals across Victoria, helping to build stronger connections with the sporting community.
Applications for this round close 31 July at 11:59pm.
