Bangarra Dance Theatre has officially opened Expression of Interest applications for Dance Clan 2024.
Following the success of its return in 2023, the program aims to support the next generation of Indigenous storytellers by offering them the chance to collaborate with Bangarra artists on original dance works.
Indigenous designers focusing on costume, set, and lighting are invited to apply, regardless of their career stage.
Successful applicants will work with emerging choreographers under the guidance of experienced industry professionals.
The new dance works will premiere at Bangarra's Studio Theatre on Gadigal Country in December 2024.
Frances Rings, Bangarra's Artistic Director and a former Dance Clan participant, emphasised the program's role in cultivating emerging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander storytellers, expanding the dance lexicon.
"Dance Clan is designed to cultivate the ground for our next generation of emerging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Storytellers," she said.
"This program of new creative works has seen various presentations of cultural and contemporary new expressions thrive, expanding our distinctive dance lexicon and its ongoing impression on the wider artistic ecology."
The initiative aligns with Bangarra's commitment to supporting First Nations creatives both on and off the stage.
Commission fees will be provided to creatives in instalments throughout the project, and applications are open until March 25th, 2024.
