The PNG Cheifs have set the date they'll unveil their club logo and inaugural jersey ahead of entering the NRL in 2028.

A 'special event' in Port Moresby is planned for the logo release on October 21, with the jersey the following day, the incoming club confirmed on Thursday.

Branding so far has utilised red and yellow already synonymous with rugby league in PNG, as those used in the Kumuls and Orchids men's and women's national team jumpers, with the colours featuring on announcements like player signings.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Chiefs said the logo 'built on pride, ambition and a deep connection to Papua New Guinea's people, culture and passion for rugby league...will help to unite a nation as the club continues to establish itself on and off the field through a clear identity.'

The logo has been developed with Papua New Guinea design experts.

"For a club that has had many special moments to date and will have many more to come in the future, this will be a remarkable occasion of celebration - not only for the PNG Chiefs but for Papua New Guinea as a whole," club chief executive Lorna McPherson said.

"Our logo will give our club a recognisable identity and symbol that our players, staff, sponsors, community and supporters can resonate with and truly call their own.

"It represents where we have come from as a nation, the values we will stand for as a club, and the future we want to build together for all Papua New Guineans.

"This is a logo that belongs to the entire PNG Chiefs community. It is a mark of pride for Papua New Guinea and for everyone who has believed in what this club can become, and we are incredibly excited to walk into the next era of the Chiefs in this way."

A local artist has designed the club logo.

Still 18 months out from their first NRL game, the Chiefs have already assembled a number of big names on their growing squad.

Kumuls international, Torres Strait man and all-time NRL leading try scorer Alex Johnston became the club's second signing, shortly behind star half Jarome Luai, both announced in April.

Gomeroi utility Connor Watson's signature followed in June, with rugby converts Zac Lomax and Joseph Manu, English forward Matty Lees, Brian To'o also in the inaugural squad.

Morea Morea, Finley Glare and Gairo Voro are the first 'home grown' PNG signings to their NRL squad.
