Mandandanji/Waanyi hip hop artist Say True God? is preparing for an exhibition boxing fight after a planned bout with Torres Strait and Samoan influencer Tommy The Cowboy fell through.
Say true god? who hails from the north side of Magandjin / Brisbane, will now face CrossFit influencer Jake Douglas at the event in Yeppoon on August 29.
Say True God? is known for his work in hip hop, including his viral 2022 track 'Wicked', his debut album 'BLAK', and his 2026 Queensland Music Awards Hip Hop win for 'COUNT US IN'.
The artist has built his profile through personal storytelling, live shows and music centred on family, culture, fatherhood, community and breaking cycles.
The fight will mark a new step outside music for Say True God?, who told National Indigenous Times he was first approached by the promoters about taking part in an influencer fight night.
"I was originally meant to fight Tommy the Cowboy, which would have been a mad fight I reckon," he said.
"But due to unforeseen circumstances, we couldn't fight.
"So I'm fighting another lad in there who's pretty big in the CrossFit world, Jake Douglas."
The change of opponent has not shifted his approach, with Say True God? saying he was ready for whoever was placed in front of him.
His preparation has already included more running and training after admitting he had been slower to start before the fight was confirmed.
Say True God? said the call-out had pushed him back into routine.
"I'm feeling good," he said. "When it comes to training, I was a bit slack there, just being dad.
"And then when he called me out for the fight, I've been training, been running, times improving, feeling better, feeling lighter, feeling deadlier."
The fight will take place the day before his birthday, giving the artist another reason to mark the result with family and community if he wins.
Say True God? said he was hoping to return from Yeppoon with a win before celebrating with mob back home.
The exhibition fight may not be his only appearance in the ring, leaving open the possibility of taking on more bouts in the future.
He said there were already early discussions about another fight after this one.
"There might be another fight night with someone down the track and under another promoter," he said.
"But like I said - any way, any who, don't matter, I'm ready."
Early access tickets are now available via the Soreheads Promotions website.
