Richard Weston has been appointed the new Chief Executive Officer of Broken Hill Aboriginal corporation and health provider, Marri Ma Health.
Returning to Broken Hill after more than a decade, Mr Weston re-joins Maari Ma Health Aboriginal Corporation after three years as Chief Executive Officer of the Secretariat of National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care (SNAICC) - National Voice for our Children.
The proud Meriam man told ABC news his focuses would be on improving Maari Ma Health's already strong healthcare service.
"Ultimately we're all here for the same thing… to provide the best quality healthcare that we can for our communities," Mr Weston said.
"I feel that Maari Ma is already providing good quality healthcare, it is just about continuing that and building on that and strengthening that.
In his new role he will also be dedicating a significant amount of attention to Indigenous rights and recognition.
"But I think there is some broader issues for Aboriginal people... Constitutional recognition, so that idea of self-determination is going to be really important."
Mr Weston has gained broad career experience in the Aboriginal affairs sector since his previous involvement at Maari Ma in 2009, including co-chair for Family Matters and was the CEO of the Canberra-based Healing Foundation.
He was also the first Deputy Children's Guardian for Aboriginal Children and Young People in New South Wales, experience that he said will hold him in good stead at Marri Ma.
"One of the exciting things about coming back to Broken Hill is that I've got 13 years of national experience under my belt," Mr Weston said.
"Running a couple of national organisations, I've got the experience dealing with the child protection system.
"I've been involved in a range of national policy advisory groups and partnering with (government) on national strategies."
It is expected that Mr Weston will begin his new role early this year.
