Ally Wilson has led the Gangurrus to the top of their pool after beating defending gold medallists USA while Mariah Williams stole a draw for the Hockeyroos against powerhouses Argentina.

Taliqua Clancy will also progress to the knockout stage of the beach volleyball competition after she and Mariafe Artacho del Solar toppled their Canadian opponents as part of a packed Olympic schedule in Paris overnight.

3x3 Basketball

Australia's women's 3x3 Basketball team have moved past an opening game loss to Canada to go 3-1 following consecutive wins over Germany, China and the USA on Thursday.

Wilson sealed the win over Tokyo's bronze medallists and FIBA no.1-ranked side in China, hitting the deciding two-pointer and collecting 11 points overall in the statement-making 21-15 win in the first of their double-header.

The Ngarrindjeri star led again against the USA, equal-topping the scoring in a game which went the distance, ending 17-15.

It places the Gangurrus at the top of the pool with three games remaining against Azerbaijan and top-ten ranked outfits Spain and France this weekend.

Boxing

Marissa Williamson Pohlman was bested by Hungary's Anna Luca Hamori by unanimous decision on Olympic debut in the women's 66kg boxing to bow out of the games.

The first Aboriginal woman to compete in boxing at the Olympics booked her ticket to Paris after just five years in the sport and after claiming gold at the Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands last year.

Swimming

Abbey Connor will also head home proud after qualifying for the women's 200m butterfly final, held early Friday morning.

The 19-year-old finished seventh, five seconds behind an Olympic Record swim from Canada's Summer McIntosh, who took out gold.

Hockey

The Hockeyroos continue their unbeaten run, thanks to an equalising penalty goal from Wiradjuri woman Mariah Williams at the death over Tokyo silver-winners Argentina.

The Argentinians took a 2-nil lead into halftime before Australia squared things heading into the last break with top spot in Pool B up for grabs.

In a last-ditch attempt and with seconds remaining, Williams deflected a penalty corner shot into the goal to claw the score back to 3-3 and keep the Hockeyroos' noses in front on difference ahead of their final pool game with another tough opponent in Spain.

Beach Volleyball

Taliqua Clancy and teammate Mariafe Artacho del Solar strengthened their run into the knockout stage by straight sets in a must-win meeting with Canadian duo Heather Bansley and Sophie Bukovec.

The Australians leaped out to a five-point lead in the first set towards a 21-10 result.

A 21-16 second set in Clancy and Artacho del Solar's favour booked their ticket into the pointy end of competition in defence of their Tokyo silver three years ago.

Tonight and over the weekend (AEST)

Ally Wilson and the Gangurrus face Azerbaijan (5:30pm) and Spain (08:30pm) on Friday.

Patty Mills and the Boomers currently sit second in their group ahead of their final match with the winless Greece in an attempt to sure-up a quarterfinals berth, Friday 9:30pm.

Mariah Williams and Brooke Peris meet Spain in their final pool game with the Hockeyroos against Spain, Saturday 8:45pm.

Conor Nicholas' campaign in the mixed dinghy starts Friday, 8:00pm.

Beach Volleyball quarterfinals (featuring Taliqua Clancy) begin Sunday evening.
