Talented Gold Coast teenager Lloyd Johnston has inked a contract extension to remain at the club for at least another season.

It will be the 19-year-old's second year on the Suns' list after managing two AFL games in 2023.

Johnston made his senior debut for the Suns in Round 23 against Carlton, recording eight disposals, and doubled his output in his second game the following week against North Melbourne, picking up 16 disposals.

He is a proud Yanyuwa man originally from Borroloola in the Northern Territory.

The rangy and agile defender was recruited to the Suns via the club's Darwin Academy after being pre-selected as a rookie at the end of last year.

He rose to prominence after an outstanding 2021/22 Northern Territory Football League season for Wanderers.

Johnston was a revelation out of the backline, wining that season's NTFL Rising Star award and also representing the league against SANFL outfit Woodville West Torrens.

The Territorian played 19 games at VFL level this year – averaging 13 disposals per game – and was a member of the Suns' grand final win over Werribee.

The Suns have also re-signed five other players for the 2024 season – James Tsitas, Sandy Brock, Levi Casboult, Oskar Faulkhead and Bodhi Uwland.

The Suns' General Manager of Player Talent & Strategy Craig Cameron was pleased to announce the signings today.

"We're thrilled to extend these players and have them locked into our squad for next season," Cameron said via the club's official website.

"We've invested significantly in our SUNS Academy over the years so it's fantastic to see this investment paying off with three Academy products extended for another season.

"All six players were extremely important to our squad for different reasons this year and we expect their experiences will hold them in good stead for 2024."
