Talented utility Liam Henry is set to join a Victorian club after requesting a trade from Fremantle.

The Dockers announced the 22-year-old's intentions to seek a trade in a statement released on the club's official website yesterday.

AFL reporter Callum Twomey is reporting that Hawthorn, St Kilda and North Melbourne are the three most likely destinations for the young West Australian.

Dockers' General Manager of Football Peter Bell said the club was disappointed upon hearing of Henry's decision to depart.

"It is disappointing that Liam Henry has opted to explore his options, especially considering we have been involved in his development since he was 15 and he has taken some significant steps forward this year," Bell said in a statement.

"We made a significant investment in Liam, not just through our Next Generation Academy, matching Carlton's bid under NGA concession rules in the 2019 Draft, and it was pleasing to see his potential come to fruition this year.

"We will have this investment and his talent as a winger front of mind when looking to facilitate a trade."

After playing just seven games in 2022, Henry had a career best season this year averaging over 20 disposals per game.

He produced a career-high 33 disposals against the Western Bulldogs in Round 16.

Henry has been a part of the club since he was 15 years old having been a member of the Dockers' Next Generation Academy.

The highly talented junior footballer was later taken with selection number nine in the 2019 AFL National Draft.

The wingman has totalled 43 games and 13 goals during his four seasons at Fremantle.

Meanwhile, Kununurra product Eric Benning was told that he would not be offered another contract from Fremantle.

Benning was another graduate of the Dockers' Next Generation Academy and was selected with pick number 54 in the 2021 AFL Draft.

The agile big man played 29 reserves games and one senior game in the WAFL for Peel Thunder.

"It's a difficult time of the year when we have to make decisions on our players' futures, and today we did inform Eric Benning that he would not be offered a contract for 2024," Bell said.

"We thank Eric for his efforts in his two seasons at Fremantle and wish him all the best in his future endeavours."
