The Australian Boomers have confirmed their squad for the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup, with Gomeroi and Wiradjuri man Will 'Davo' Hickey among the 12 players selected following a four-day training camp on the Gold Coast.

Hickey, who recently completed a stint with the Chicago Bulls in the NBA Summer League, joins the Boomers lineup as they prepare to take on South Korea, Lebanon and Qatar in Group A of the tournament, which runs from 5 to 17 August in Saudi Arabia.

While limited court time in the US prevented him from showcasing his full potential, Hickey's inclusion highlights his ongoing dedication and rising profile within the sport.

Gunai Kurnai man, Uncle Ricky Baldwin, a long-time mentor of Hickey, said his impact goes beyond the court.

"Now that Patty is gone - they [Boomers] will need an Indigenous athlete to shine," he said.

"From the day we met – I said 'you have the gift not many have and you have to use that gift'.

"His ceiling is bigger than basketball, he can make an impact on the community and it's inspiring so many young kids already."

The squad includes eight NBL players, such as Melbourne United's Dash Daniels and Hickey, an Illawarra Hawks championship guard.

Veterans Will Magnay, Jack McVeigh, Xavier Cooks and Jack White bring Olympic and Boomers experience.

Before departing for Saudi Arabia, the Boomers will host the University of Colorado Buffaloes in an exhibition match on 31 July at the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre.

The event will feature a mix of NBA, NBL and NCAA players.
