Scott Boland has firmed to be selected as Australia's third pace bowler for the upcoming World Test Championship final against India.
It comes as Australia reduced its 17-man squad to 15 ahead of the match, which begins next Wednesday at the Oval.
The Gulidjan quick's position in the playing 11 is looking increasingly likely with Josh Hazlewood's selection doubtful, despite being named in the 15-man squad.
Hazlewood is recovering from multiple injuries which saw him miss Australia's recent Test series in India with an achilles issue and the IPL due to side soreness, an injury that has plagued him throughout recent Australian summers.
He previously suggested the first Test of a series can determine his immediate playing availability in subsequent matches, leading to suggestions that selectors and medical staff will err on the side of caution and not rush the 59-test mainstay back into Australia's side for the World Test Championship final ahead of the Ashes, which begins on 16 June.
"The first long-form game of the summer is always a bit of make or break," Hazlewood previously said.
"If you get through it, you can keep going and going, but if you don't, then it's back to square one."
Hazlewood has only been fit to play four matches in the last two years, returning 10 wickets at an average of 29.7.
On the other hand, Boland has shown his durability with the ball during the same time period, having taken 28 wickets in seven Tests at an average of 13.42 and a strike rate of 36.8.
In commenting on the final makeup of Australia's side, chairman of selectors George Bailey suggested the selection panel were likely to recognise consistent performers from the last two years.
""The way we are looking at that is it's a culmination of what's been a pretty consistent two years," Bailey said.
"It's been a pretty similar team for a long period of time. We are confident that's a team and that's a make-up that can have success."
Boland's inclusion in the squad alongside fellow quicks Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and captain Pat Cummins meant Michael Neser and Sean Abbott missed selection in the 15-man squad.
The squad also features reserve batter Marcus Harris and reserve wicketkeeper Josh Inglis, who are included as the squad's 14th and 15th members.
The World Test Championship Final between Australia and India commences on Wednesday 7 July at the Oval.
