The Northern Territory Young Australian of the Year has been charged with assault in Tennant Creek.

First reported by The Australian, 18-year-old Warumungu man Jaiden Dickenson was arrested on Friday, November 21 and charged with two counts of aggravated assault.

In a statement, NT Police said they "responded to reports of an alleged assault at a residence in Tennant Creek" involving an 18-year-old who allegedly "physically assaulted two adult females" who were known to him.

"The victims did not require medical attention," NT Police said.

Mr Dickenson has been granted bail and is due to appear in Tennant Creek Local Court on January 13.

Earlier this month, National Indigenous Times reported Mr Dickenson was named the 2026 NT Young Australian of the Year, recognised for his leadership, compassion and commitment to young people in Tennant Creek, Ali Curung and Elliott.

Through his work as a Youth Diversion Officer with Tennant Creek Mob, he supports young people in breaking cycles of trauma, violence, and crime by encouraging accountability, cultural pride, and optimism.

"Most of the kids in the community are looking up to me and they keep saying I want to be like that, I want to be like Jaiden," he said at the time.

"They always say to me I am going to just be like you Jaiden, just go find a job and live a better life than sitting around at home."

The article was amended on December 3 to state the accused allegedly assaulted two adult females, after NT Police initially said there was one alleged victim.
