Arrernte/Gurindji singer-songwriter Dan Sultan has celebrated 10 years of his ARIA award-winning album Blackbird by releasing a signed limited edition vinyl.

Recorded in the renowned Blackbird Studios in Nashville with acclaimed producer Jacquire King - who is known for his work with Tom Waits and Kings Of Leon - Blackbird was first released in April 2014.

The album made an impressive debut at #4 on the ARIA Albums Charts, later receiving gold certification.

Highlighted by popular tracks such as 'Under Your Skin', 'The Same Man', and 'Kimberley Calling', Blackbird secured the ARIA award for Best Rock Album, the AIR Award for Best Independent Blues and Roots Album, and a NIMA award for National Cover Art of the Year.

At its essence, Blackbird tells the heartfelt story of a man expressing themes of love, longing, and self-discovery.

The album seamlessly blends powerful riffs with soulful gospel interludes, rock and roll influences, soulful jams, traditional country sounds, and raw, emotional ballads.

In addition to the exciting release, Sultan has also announced a special celebratory show with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, which will take place in July, for a special performance during NAIDOC Week.

The concert will feature songs from Blackbird as well as popular hits from his vast repertoire. Noongar man Aaron Wyatt will conduct the MSO, with musical arrangements by Alex Turley.

Sultan said he jumped at the opportunity to reunite with the MSO on this special anniversary, after headlining the Orchestra's 2023 performance One Song: The Music of Archie Roach.

"I loved the experience of making Blackbird," he said.

"I spent two months in Nashville and worked with an incredible producer in Jacquire King and was able to take my band with me, Pete Marin and Josh Jones.

"We all had a wonderful time together and made something really special. It was a huge adventure and something I'll always cherish.

"To bring this music to the MSO is a huge honour and a big challenge that I'm very excited about. I think we will make something very special once again."

This exclusive edition of Blackbird (out April 26 via Liberation Records) will feature a brand new design and will be pressed on stunning transparent red vinyl with black dust.
