Based out of Broome, Magabala is one of the country's best bookshops & leading publishing houses. Publishing around 18 titles a year, Magabala has a focus on supporting new and emerging Indigenous authors, artists and illustrators. As they say "every Magabala Book purchased is an investment in Indigenous creative, cultural and economic futures." and we couldn't agree more.
Emro was started in 2020 by proud Minjungbal woman Emma Rolls and has a gift for creating soft furnishings for pretty much every place you're in outside, inside, at work or at home. Emro hopes that their pieces serve as a talking point, and are a way for people to connect to and have a deep appreciation for Indigenous culture. Not only is Emro a 100% owned and operated Indigenous business but all the artists involved each receive a commission of profit for the pieces sold to help them continue in their work of telling their stories through their art.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Jewelers Brosiscus was started by Jayde Geia and was initially conceived for her family. Now that love and care is yours to keep as well. Jayde is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander woman who grew up in Brisbane, she is the daughter of Phil Geia and the Geia family are Bwgcolman, Gunggandji and Mualgal. Brosiscus produce some amazing fine jewellery pieces all, ground in the spirit of her community.
Is there anything Nugala doesn't do and do well? Established by proud Warumungu / Wombaya woman Jessica Johnson, Nungala Creative produces innovative content with a distinct Aboriginal voice. They have a huge client list, and a great online store with heaps of unique items from clothes, and Croc bait through to prints and jewellery. Nugala has an authentic voice and they speak loudly and proudly - you should jump on in and join them.
Started in 1989, Bangarra Dance Theatre is a company of professional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander performers who tour across the country and the world. Their performances are all grounded in the stories of Elders, with a commitment to create works on Country and return the works to the place they were made. Bangarra is one of the leading lights of Australian theatre and has had a huge 2023 program with the promise of an even bigger 2024.
