A new song and video set on Wiradjuri Country is giving voice to young people in Cootamundra through a community-led story of culture, identity and belonging.
Gudhamangdhuray Gang will release their single 'We Still Belong' and its official music video on Monday, March 30.
The project was created in Cootamundra in the Riverina district on the South West Slopes of New South Wales, on Wiradjuri Country.
"Gudhamangdhuray" is the Wiradjuri word for the Cootamundra area and reflects place, identity and cultural strength.
The release pairs the original track with an official music video filmed on Country.
It came out of a collaborative storytelling project involving Desert Pea Media, a New South Wales-based not-for-profit and the Cootamundra Indigenous community.
Participant Indi-Rose said the project deepened her appreciation of culture and truth-telling.
"Learning and sharing these stories made me appreciate my culture and showed me the importance of truth telling and my cultural history," she said.

The project was shaped through a five-day creative process at Cootamundra High School.
Young people, Elders, school staff and community members took part in an intergenerational yarn across the week.
Those conversations focused on history, culture, identity, wellbeing and hope for the future resulting in lyrics and a direction for 'We Still Belong'.
The song is described as an anthemic track grounded in authentic community perspectives.
It also reflects a focus on cultural pride and identity among younger people in the community.
Participant Kaitlyn said the project reinforced the importance of continuing to share culture and language.
"This has helped me understand how important it is to keep telling our stories," she said.
"Having these types of conversations and spreading our culture and language will help younger emerging leaders such as myself to have pride and knowledge about our identity."

Desert Pea Media said the project continues its long-running work with remote and regional communities across Australia.
For more than two decades, the organisation has worked alongside communities through music, film and digital media projects.
'We Still Belong' continues that approach through a culturally grounded and collaborative storytelling process.
The project was funded by Cootamundra High School and formed part of a Gudhamangdhuray Community of Schools initiative delivered with Cootamundra Public School and EA Southee Public School.
The track is set for release on Monday, March 30.
