The Northern Territory government has opened applications for the NT Health Aboriginal Scholarship Scheme.
Five scholarships are available, worth up to $5,000 each, to assist eligible Aboriginal students undertaking their first year of an undergraduate health degree.
The successful students will receive two $2,500 instalments at the end of each semester if they successfully complete four units per semester.
Recipients will also have an opportunity to undertake four weeks of vacation employment within NT Health.
19 health occupations are eligible for the scholarship, including registered nurse, dental therapist, physiotherapist, social worker, pharmacist, environmental health officer, sonographer and radiographer.
Applications are open until Friday, 17 March, and students can find out more and apply on the NT Health website.
Chief Minister and Minister for Health Natasha Fyles noted that having quality healthcare services across the Territory is the right of every Territorian.
"We know the difference our Aboriginal workforce can make in improving the health of individuals and communities across the Territory," she said.
"We need more Aboriginal Territorians to train in this area and these scholarships will support people in achieving that.
"Making sure our health services are increasingly accessible and culturally appropriate, will lead to better health outcomes Territory wide."
