Fremantle skipper Alex Pearce has been ruled out of the remainder of Saturday's AFL Grand Final.

Pearce was carried off the MCG turf after going down with a lower leg injury early in the third term.

The Fremantle captain had looked ginger throughout the match, and had limited influence in the opening half of the decider.

Rotating across Brisbane's tall targets, though primarily on Logan Morris, Pearce had limited opportunities however mostly did his job when the ball came near.

With his right knee taped, Pearce had looked in some trouble.

Chasing after a rolling ball on the wing, he went down in concerning fashion and without contact.

Pearce was later seen having his lower right leg iced and strapped, his afternoon seemingly over with a suspected achilles injury.

After a tight half, including nine lead changes and game high-leads of just seven for either side, Fremantle kicked the opening two majors of the third term.

Scores were tied at 6.7 (43) at the main break.

Charlie Cameron kicked the Lions first, with Isaiah Dudley nabbing his second around halfway through the third term to push the minor premier's lead out to a game-high 15 points.

Pearce could become the first Indigenous captain in VFL/AFL history to lift the cup on grand final day should Fremantle win.
