A defensive masterclass from Joel Jeffrey was a major factor in Gold Coast's premiership triumph in the VFL yesterday afternoon.
The Suns utility was impassable in defence and was among the Suns' better players in the 19-point grand final win over Werribee on Sunday.
Gold Coast 17.10 (112) defeated Werribee 14.9 (93) at Ikon Park.
It was an entertaining match with the Suns maintaining a narrow lead for most of the afternoon.
Jeffrey finished the match with 20 disposals, including 17 kicks, and was a key pillar in the Suns' defensive unit all afternoon.
The Wulwulam and Kukatj man had eight disposals, including three intercept marks, in the last quarter to thwart any chance of a late Werribee comeback.
The win was the Suns' first premiership since the club's inception 14 years ago.

Jeffrey – originally drafted as a forward – made the switch to the Suns' defence midway through the season and has produced consistent football at VFL level averaging just under 20 disposals per game.
The 21-year-old has played 16 AFL games since making his debut during the 2021 season.
He played seven games for the Suns in 2023 and is contracted to the club until the end of next year.
Kija & Jaru man Jy Farrer produced a couple of momentum changing defensive efforts throughout the Suns' win.
He finished with 10 disposals before leaving the ground late in the contest with what appeared to be a shoulder injury.
Garawa man Lloyd Johnston capped off a strong debut season at the Suns with 10 disposals in his familiar defensive role.
Werribee star Shaun Mannagh won the Norm Goss Medal for an exceptional best-on-ground performance, finishing with 28 disposals and six goals.
