The Geraldton Buccaneers secured their second NBL1 West championship in three years at the weekend with an 81-78 win over the Warwick Senators at RAC Arena in Perth.

Noongar/Yamatji and NBL Development Player Johny Narkle set the tone early, stealing the ball and finishing with a dunk just 23 seconds into the game.

Narkle secured the MVP after posting 21 points, nine rebounds, three assists, four steals and three blocks while sinking 6/8 free throw attempts in 37 minutes of play.

The Buccaneers started strong, leading 26-18 after the first quarter through efficient shooting and lockdown defence.

Warwick responded in the second and third quarters, with Elijah Pepper keeping them in the game.

Pepper scored a game-high 33 points but was forced to the bench twice in the final minutes under the blood rule.

The match remained close until the final seconds, with Warwick outscoring Geraldton 8-6 in the last minute.

Cooper Creek missed two late three-point attempts, and Akeem Springs sealed the result at the free throw line.

Verle Williams was crucial off the bench for Geraldton, scoring 15 points and hitting two key three-pointers in the final quarter.

Narkle and Springs put on a defensive clinic, combining for seven blocks and five steals, limiting Warwick to 41.7 percent from within the arc and just 19.1 percent from three-point range.

Springs joined Narkle as the leading scorers with 21 points, while Liam Hunt added 14 on efficient shooting.

Despite Pepper's individual performance, Warwick shot only 28.9 percent from the field compared to Geraldton's 44.4 percent.

The win secures the Buccaneers a place in the NBL1 National Championships.
