Queensland have named competitive extended squads ahead of next month's National Indigenous Cricket Championships.

The Championships, set to be held for the second time at Mackay's Great Barrier Reef Arena and Harrup Park next month, will see some of Australia's top Indigenous cricketers go head-to-head in men's and women's state and territory divisions.

Queensland's squads come after the state delivered its strongest collective performance at a National Indigenous Cricket Championships (NICC) last year, which saw the men's team claim the national title while the women's side finished runner-up.

At last year's tournament, Dylan McLachlan led Queensland's men's side to victory over New South Wales in a tight encounter while in the women's divison, a gallant Queensland outfit ran into a red hot Mikayla Hinkley-led Western Australia, who secured their first tournament victory in combined Imparja Cup and NICC history.

This year's extended squads feature a mix of returning performers and emerging talent, with Queensland Cricket saying competition for places expected to be highly competitive.

Both squads include players with premier league, 2nd XI, and List A experience, as well as former Australian Indigenous XI representatives.

They include Christine Coulson, Dharmini Chauhan, and Grace Abdy in the women's squad, and Dylan McLachlan, Cruz Baker and veteran Jake Coolwell in the men's squad.

Queensland Cricket's Head of Strategic Initiatives - Community Cricket, Katisha Webb, said the state's performance at NICC level reflects the continued growth of Indigenous cricket throughout the state.

"Last year was an outstanding achievement for both squads, and it is exciting to see the calibre of players putting their hands up again in 2026," Ms Webb said.

"We have a talented and committed group who are deeply connected to the game, and this next period gives them an important opportunity to showcase their readiness for national competition."

The National Indigenous Cricket Championships will be held from April 14-19.
