Gamilaraay singer-songwriter Mitch Tambo has returned with a new upbeat single titled Yugal Yulu-gi.
Tambo's new single combines the sounds of the yidaki (didgeridoo) with the sound of electronic synthesizers.
Yugal Yulu-gi means 'song and dance' and celebrates being under the open night sky and celebrating life while letting go of the weight and pressures of the world.
The self-described 'banger' is meant to transcend language barriers by being sung completely in Gamilaraay.
Tambo said the whole point of the song is to uplift listeners.
"I wanted to share the freedom and healing that music and movement can bring to someone's life," he said.
"This track is a feel good upbeat athemic song to really uplift and help listeners feel free.
"I love how it makes me feel."
The new release has been featured in the 2023 coverage of the NRL Indigenous Round on Fox Sports.
A spokesperson from FOX Sports said it was the perfect song for the round.
"We couldn't be more excited to feature Mitch Tambo's 'Yugal Yulu-gi' in our Indigenous Round coverage this year," they said.
"It is the perfect song as in Mitch Tambo's own words, it is about "celebrating life, whilst letting go of the weight and pressures of the world, celebrating with your people.
"Something both codes of footy do week in and week out especially in these very special Indigenous rounds."
Previously Tambo had performed his single Together as part of Eurovision Australia Decides, and has covered You're the Voice with John Farnham, Olivia Newton-John and Brian May.
Yugal Yulu-gi by Tambo can be listened to on Spotify, Apple Music and the iTunes Store.
