Brisbane Lions pair Blake Coleman and Darryl McDowell-White have not been offered contracts by the club for the 2024 season.

Coleman joined the club in 2020 after graduating from the Lions' Academy.

He was drafted by the club with their first pick – number 24 overall – in the 2020 AFL Draft after being forced to match a bid from Collingwood.

The 21-year-old spent three seasons on the Lions' list but was unable to make his AFL debut despite 50 appearances at VFL level.

The Dalabon man had a career-best season in the VFL this year, registering 22 goals, including a four-goal performance against the Sydney Swans in Round 13.

Coleman's older brother Keidean is one of the Lions' stars and is fresh off a dominant finals campaign where he was arguably his team's best player in both the preliminary and grand final.

McDowell-White was delisted after spending just one season on the club's AFL list since signing as a Category B rookie last year.

He was drafted as a 25-year-old after previously spending his time committed to basketball.

The Torres Strait, Warramungu and Arrernte man played 21 games in the VFL in 2023.

McDowell-White is the son of Brisbane champion and triple-premiership player Darryl White.

White played 268 games for the Lions and was named in the Indigenous Team of the Century.

Despite showing some similar athletic traits to his champion father, McDowell-White was unable to debut at AFL level.

Brisbane Lions General Manager of Football Danny Daly said the pair were unfortunate that were behind the pecking order of some excellent forwards at the Lions.

"Blake and DJ are two players who had some real talent, but unfortunately due to the club having so many strong forwards at AFL level they were not able to push their way into the team," Daly said.

"The club would like to thank the players for their contribution to the Brisbane Lions and we wish them and their families all the best for the future."
