It could be season over for Indigenous Bulldogs' veteran Liam Jones after the 32-year-old's surgery on a forearm break on Monday.

The key defender went under the knife with two fractures to his arm suffered in the Dogs' win over North Melbourne on Sunday.

Jones, who is from the Kija region through his father Bob, was subbed off in the opening quarter after a wayward boot from North's Paul Curtis caught his left arm.

Curtis was not cited by the Match Review Officer over the incident.

The signs were ominous as he left the ground visibly in pain, with an admission from Bulldogs' coach Luke Beveridge it could be a lengthy recovery.

"He'll need that plate," Beveridge said after the match.

"Hoping to get him in and get that repaired.I don't know how long he is out for, but he'll be out for a while."

A plate was inserted in the surgery.

On Tuesday the club confirmed Jones will miss 8-10 with the injury.

It's a blow to their season after Jones proved a key pillar in the Bulldogs' back six over the first half of the season.

He returned to the AFL after sitting out the 2022 season, instead playing with Palm Beach Currumbin in the QAFL.

The Dogs sit in seventh spot with eight wins after round 14.
