Northern Territory Police are continuing search efforts to locate Maxie Graham from Tennant Creek.

After being reported missing late on Tuesday, NT Police released a statement on Thursday calling for members of the public to help locate Mr Graham.

The 52-year-old reportedly left his address at approximately 6:30am on Monday 16 September and drove a silver Ford Territory to a residence in Tennant Creek, where he walked into a friend's house and remained for approximately 30 minutes, leaving at around 8am.

Mr Graham is described as of Aboriginal appearance, 170cm tall, of a slim build with scruffy black hair and a long grey beard. He was last seen wearing black trousers with a blue shirt.

Both Mr Graham's family and NT Police hold concerns for his welfare.

"There is an unconfirmed sighting of Maxie at 6pm the same day when a male matching his description was seen hitchhiking 13km along Peko Road, walking towards Paterson Street, Tennant Creek," NT Police said.

"The Silver Ford Territory has since been located abandoned 15km South/East of Tennant Creek.

"The Search and Rescue Section has deployed to the area with the assistance of local police. Drone assets, ATV's, Dirt bikes and a helicopter are currently being used to search the area."

Members of the public with information of Mr Graham's whereabouts are urged to contact police on 131 444, quoting reference NTP2400093379.
