Fremantle veteran Michael Walters is set for a stint on the sidelines after injuring his hamstring during the club's big loss to Western Bulldogs at the weekend.

Walters was subbed off after clutching at his right hamstring after kicking the football during the second quarter of the Dockers' 67-point loss to the Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium.

The club's high performance manager, Phil Merriman, said the 33-year-old is expected to miss a "few weeks" of football following the strain.

"Sonny (Michael Walters) has had a scan and it is a low-to-moderate grade hamstring injury," Merriman said.

"It should set him back about three to four weeks, so we unfortunately won't see him for a few weeks."

Walters has played 235 games and kicked 359 goals across 16 seasons at the Dockers and has featured in 13 matches in 2024.

Over in the West, Eagles star Tim Kelly will miss this week's contest against Essendon, but is hoping to be available for the Hawthorn match the following week.

West Coast high performance manager, Mat Inness, revealed there had been a delay with Kelly's recovery timeline.

"Tim Kelly with his hip and a little bit of a grumbly knee (is) taking a little bit longer than we were expecting, but he's back training," Inness said.

"He trained today and he'll have a good session Saturday, so he won't play this week but we'll hopefully see him the week after."

Meanwhile, Port Adelaide small forward Willie Rioli will be tested by the club this week in the hope of a return against Brisbane on Saturday.

Rioli has missed the previous two games – against Carlton and Greater Western Sydney – after suffering a calf strain in Round 11 against North Melbourne.

The club stated the former West Coast player is making 'positive progress' and are hoping that he will be available this weekend.

North Melbourne co-captain Jy Simpkin will also be put through his paces to determine his availability for this weekend's game against Melbourne.

Simpkin will train with the club on Thursday to test a low-grade hamstring strain.

The 26-year-old was a late withdrawal for the Kangaroos in last weekend's one-point loss to Collingwood.

"(My hamstring is) feeling pretty good, fingers crossed I can keep ticking boxes," Simpkin told reporters on Tuesday.
