Neil Murray, one of Australia's finest songmen, has just released his latest album, The Telling.

This marks his 10th original solo album in a four-decade-long recording career which began with the Warumpi Band's debut single Jailanguru Pakarnu (Out from Jail) in 1983.

Murray's previous works include three albums with the Warumpi Band and one with Sammy Butcher. The Telling represents another milestone in Murray's illustrious career as a songwriter.

The Telling features some of his most powerful songs to date, tackling issues of injustice and loss, both past and present. Roger Bergodaz recorded The Telling in Melbourne, while Ted Howard mixed it in Sydney.

The tracks "Broken Land," "No Justice," and "Tears of Wybalenna" offer a moving and emotional reckoning.

"Rainbow Serpent and a Mine," which was co-written with Traditional Owner Jack Green, provides a graphic portrayal of the devastation caused by the McArthur River mine near Borrooloola.

"The Murrumbidgee" offers hope and perseverance in the face of environmental setbacks, while "Heal my Life" provides clarity on matters of the heart.

Murray pays tribute to the departed in "For evermore" and "The Manager," while "My Yuendumu Song" reflects positively on an Indigenous town and "If the Wind be Kind" offers a sea shanty to round out the album.

The Telling features instrumental contributions from Bill Heckenberg (drums), Craig Kelly (bass), Stephen "Stretch" Teakle (keys, accordion, clavietta) Damien Neil (mandolin, guitar), Jack Howard (trumpet), Shane Reilly (pedal steel) with vocal harmonies from Grace Robinson & Damien Neil.

Neil and his band will launch The Telling with the following launch shows and tour dates with more shows to be added.
